The clients current home is described as a fourplex, so we were able to get a good idea of how the home will look. At the time of the photo, the home was in a similar condition to the one the client is currently living in. This is quite unusual for a fourplex, as all four units are on the same level.
This is a great example of how we can get a feel for a client’s current home. Many times it’s important to have a sense of what the clients current home looks like, but often, it’s also important to have a sense of the type of home the client is currently living in. We can tell a lot about the type of home the client is living in by looking through the photos in our gallery.
A 4plex is no longer just a unit, but a whole house, which means all the things that make it unique and special are in fact spread out on a much larger scale than they are individually. We can see this by looking through our gallery of images and seeing how many different kinds of rooms there are in our client’s current home.
This kind of spread out environment also means that you can see where the walls, floors, ceilings, and other parts of the home are going to be altered. If we assume that for the sake of our illustration we’re going to assume that our client’s home is going to have 3 floors and two bedrooms, then we can get a very good idea of the kinds of things we can expect.
This is a very common type of design. Usually, when they’re creating the design of a new home, the designer has a “plan of action,” and that plan of action will dictate what type of rooms, rooms, and spaces will be added, or removed. We call those “room types,” and they are the first thing that people notice.
While this may not be completely true, for the sake of illustration, we were going to assume that the number of bedrooms and the number of people living in the home is going to be three. The other assumption, which is more accurate, is we are going to have two bathrooms.
So while that’s a good general rule, it was also true to say that the designer doesn’t have a plan of action. They are not limited by their budget, and they don’t set out to create a room that looks like a giant space needle. It’s not as though every designer is a genie who will turn into a lamp in the blink of an eye. It takes time and thought to create a design that is both functional and stylish.
