You can turn off the calling features when you’re sure you don’t need them in the moment. For fitness and health metrics, you’ll rely on Google Fit to track steps, breathing, heart rate, calories, and activity points. However, Wear OS is known to be a bit buggy with accurate step tracking. The battery life just barely hits 24 hours of use, so you’ll be charging it rather frequently.

Well, if you prefer rocking a simple-looking watch over fancy ones with flashy features, then you might want to consider buying a hybrid smartwatch. Hybrid smartwatches, for those that don’t know, look like traditional watches but they offer smartwatch smarts. The company’s smartwatch will use two new motion sensors along with an improved gyroscope and accelerometer to detect a crash. The Watch will then automatically call emergency services and even notify your emergency contacts.

We also love that its faces are highly customizable, allowing you to pick different designs and showcase different apps to tailor your watch to your specific use. Keep in mind that the Apple Watch is only compatible with iOS devices, including iPhone. The Apple Watch and Wear OS smartwatches generally only last a day or two away from the charger, which is one of the biggest turn-offs for people. Luckily, a lot of other smartwatches now last more than a week, with Fitbit, Huawei, Amazfit and Garmin all pushing longer runtimes. Older Wear watches work on both, but the iOS experience is diminished and it’s not recommended.

We prefer the later, as it has a fresher and classier design, perfect for formal occasions. The stellar app support and large screen make the watch a great device for smart features. Performance-wise, the Watch 5 Pro is the same as the regular Watch 5, which means it’s the same as last year’s Watch 4 series, too.

It’s bordering on the ultimate fitness tool with extensive sleep tracking also helping you get the most from yourself every day. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is our current favorite because of its streamlined design, excellent health and safety features, and useful calling and texting capabilities. A cellular connection allows you to make calls, send texts, stream music, download apps, and do anything else that requires an internet connection, without your phone. The Galaxy Watch 5 and Google Pixel Watch are also available with cellular connectivity. We’re currently testing the Apple Watch Ultra, our upgrade smartwatch pick for iPhone owners, to see how it compares to the best GPS running watches.

The Watch 5 is also a fast performer with a bright, smooth display and battery life that can stretch nearly two full days, depending on the size you buy. However, most of what we like about the Watch 5 is also featured in the Watch 4, so don’t rush out to upgrade from last year’s model. In fact, if you can get your hands on a Watch 4 Classic, we still recommend it — its performance is identical to the Watch 5, and the 4 Classic is the only Wear OS watch with a rotating bezel for navigating menus. With Qualcomm’s Wear 4100 chip, a whole gig of RAM, and a promised update to the new-and-improved Wear OS 3 sometime this year, Mobvoi’s TicWatch E3 offers a lot of value for a relatively modest $200.

Again, depending on the smartwatch make and model, a selection of customizable digital watch faces will also likely be available. His passion is smartphones and wearables, and he is sure that the next big thing will be phones we wear on our faces. The first thing to check is whether your phone is compatible with it – you can’t use an Apple Watch with an Android phone, and you can’t use a Google Pixel Watch with an iPhone.

Expect to get 14 days of battery life with normal use, but this will drop when you add GPS tracking. Our review process involves using the devices as if they were our own personal wearables, ensuring every smartwatch gets fully tested in the real world. A comprehensive sweep of features takes place, and usage is varied over multiple days to give us a clear idea of how battery life performs.
