I am proud to introduce you to Scott Davis Photography. You will find my work here on the website. I create portraits on a variety of subjects, but my favorite is the one I call “self aware.” These are portraits that really take you outside of your everyday life. You might see yourself in a room with a person and they’re walking beside you. You might feel like they’re with you in your bedroom.
Sure, so I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a portrait of myself that says, “You look better than you did yesterday.” But I can guarantee you that I have had many times that you will look twice and then say, “You look a lot better than you did yesterday.” But these two things aren’t nearly as closely related as you might think.
Scents and images are a good way to introduce yourself to others. They’re also a way to make yourself memorable. Your face and your personality are two essential parts of your identity. When you introduce yourself to others, you want to make sure you can make the most of that person’s impression. What you’re thinking and how you respond to each other can make a huge difference in how you feel about yourself and your image.
So here’s a big question for you newbies: how many of you have ever tried to “pick up” someone from an image? Most of us are probably not much help at all in this area. We tend to look at the face of a person and think “How could he possibly like me?” or “I wonder what the heck that person would be like if I looked at his face.
The problem is that we take these impressions of others and use them to judge ourselves. We use what someone looks like as an indication of their personality, and we judge ourselves by what we see in the mirror. In other words we go through the same self-processing we go through for everything we see.
Scott Davis, the legendary photographer, has a great blog called scottdavis.com. You can read some of his thoughts on photography on the blog posts. In particular I found his thoughts on the camera really valuable. I’ve got a copy of one of his latest books (for free!) and I am going to be following these thoughts on photography over the coming weeks on this blog.
Scott is definitely one of those rare photographers who is so very self aware. He has a great understanding of his own craft that enables him to see the same thing others see, and he does it with such clear focus that it isn’t a problem. It’s one of those things that you almost feel like you’re learning something.
Its a shame that the best way to learn your craft is through practice, as it is difficult to learn anything from watching someone else do it. But that makes sense because Scott is a master of the practice of self awareness. He has the perfect combination of self awareness and practice.
Its hard to know exactly what Scott Davis is doing with his camera, but it seems to be documenting the process of his practice.
Scott Davis is a photographer who is known for his use of self aware photography. In his work he uses his camera to create images that will create a “self awareness” in the viewer. He often uses color to create a heightened awareness of the subject and the action being filmed. Scott has been working with the camera for over 20 years and the images he’s created from the camera have become a part of his process.
