While the term “gamer” has traditionally applied to those who play video games, it is increasingly being used as a blanket term to include gamers of all varieties and types. Certainly, the use of “gamer” to refer to someone who plays video games is congruent with evolving popular culture and the mainstreaming of gaming. But even with this change in definition, it’s clear that many people still don’t really understand what gamers do when they’re not staring at their screens.
Here at video game blog, we want you to get a better understanding about gaming and what it entails by sharing our insights on what makes an excellent gamer (and game!). But of course, there’s a lot more to gamers than just fun, games and entertainment. We want to share with you our perspective on what it means to be a gamer in modern times (and all that entails).
So without further ado, we present the “Gamer Manifesto”!
The Gamer Manifesto is a constantly growing list of principles that define what makes an excellent gamer. An excellent gamer should be motivated by endless curiosity beyond just gaming. This leads to a constant desire to master games and understand how they work.
The Gamer Manifesto also describes the qualities that all players strive for in their favorite games:
Relaxation: All gamers enjoy relaxation, which is a fundamental aspect of gaming (and life!). A good game should be able to provide its players with an escape from their daily life tasks and responsibilities.
The Gamer Manifesto also states that “All gamers like challenges!” Truly excellent gamers will always strive to overcome obstacles in video games. Challenges are what makes gamers push further, to be the very best and to become one with their favorite games.
Entertainment: A fourth attribute of a good game is entertainment. This is defined by a sense of achievement, excitement and fun!

Socialization: A great game should be able to provide its players with quality social interaction. This is what drives gamers to share their videos, screenshots and discussions with friends and strangers alike.

Learning: Another attribute of a good game is learning! This can take many forms but can mean something as simple as learning the game’s controls or progression system. Learn more about gaming!
The Gamer Manifesto also describes the qualities that only some players strive for in a game:
Puzzle solving: Those who love puzzles will often seek out games that offer them an additional challenge in the form of a puzzle. This might be an optional puzzle game mode, a puzzle minigame or any sort of extra challenge that can be overcome with logic and the right strategy.
