The barn images below were taken in November of last year. These barn photos show the different types of barns on the farm that our family works on.
It’s amazing to see the different ways barns have been used in the past. The main purpose of a barn is to keep animals out and cool for the summer and early fall. Barns were a common feature of the houses of the ancient Greeks and Romans, and the early European farmers used them primarily to store hay and grain. But the barns of our farm are different than those of the past. Here they serve a different purpose, and help us to enjoy the summer.
We use barns to keep our horses out of the summer heat, and to keep our livestock in. But because the barns we work on are not the barns of the past, we are also using them to keep the dogs out (and away from the hay and grain). While some of the barns are heated, other barns are not.
Barns are really cool. The wooden structures that house animals, and the warmth that they provide are one of the things that make the summer so enjoyable. But they can also become hot spots if left unattended. Of course, if you have a dog in your barn, you might just need to put it in the yard.
One of the most interesting things about barns is that they are made to be heated. That makes things like electric blankets a whole lot easier because you don’t need to worry about the heat being too much for the animals to stay warm. Some barns are heated directly to the barn-floor (like the one in our barn in the picture) while others are heated over the top of them to the barn-floor (like our barn in the picture).
This is the third barn of ours that is heated over the top of the barn. The other two are heated directly to the barn-floor like the last one in our photo. One of those barns is really hot.

You can also make a barn with a glass roof and that doesn’t have to be heated like the last one in our photo. This is where we use the phrase Barns that are heated over the top of the barns like the last one in our photo. That can make it completely transparent.
