However, as it is unlikely that Niantic intended for the research task to be completed in this way, they may well fix it at some point. And thanks to the person who gave the 10 raids tip? I’m waiting till tomorrow to hit those raids.
@Nichoharri For now, I think you can only get more candies from walking with him as your buddy or by using Rare Candy from raids. Might as well make the quest “catch a shiny”. It sucks that the Magikarp evolution isn’t retroactive.
To catch Mew in Pokémon GO, you have to complete the Special Research quest A Mythical Discovery. This is located in the same place as your Field Research quests. Tap on the binoculars icon, then visit the ‘Special’ column. A Mythical Discovery was, at the time, the only Special Research quest available in Pokémon GO, and it’s the quest you have to complete to get your grubby little mitts on Mew. Completing it requires you to work your way through a series of eight different objectives, which can prove pretty time-consuming.
This set of Research tasks is identical to and offers the same rewards as Looming in the Shadows. Looming in the Shadows is a set of tasks that may be unlocked starting November 7, 2019, for players level 8 or higher who have finished A Troubling Situation. This set of Research tasks rewards players with a Super Rocket Radar to find Giovanni. Finding Your Voice is a set of the Special Research tasks that Professor Willow will assign to the player. It is split into 6 parts, and completing these tasks will allow Trainers to catch Meloetta. These tasks have been available since September 21, 2021 at 10 a.m.
I suspect this may be where those people are going wrong. I’m seeing mixed reports about the trick for raids… Sometimes I think they want people to spoof, where am I going to find all those ghosts or a ditto. I’m surprised online aggregators are more comprehensive so many people don’t have enough Magikarp candies… I still have over 1000 after evolving one for the Mew quests, and that’s nothing compared to people who spend a lot of time near the waterfront in my town.
However, its rarity alone makes it well worth the time and effort in completing the ‘A Mythical Discovery’ event. April 2022 introduces the Silent Schemes event, which requires learning new Leader counters and Giovanni counters. The Spring into Spring event has returned – bringing Tapu Bulu and the An Ula’ula Adventure research quest with it. Elsewhere, off the back of the Go Tour Johto event is Masterwork Research Apex to complete. The quest is broken down into eight stages, with multiple challenges to complete per stage. @Menchi187 save some pinap berries for the water event when you can make magikarp your buddy and have them pop up everywhere.
