Our first few minutes in our new home are usually spent in the dark. What is often overlooked, however, is that the dark walls of the living room can serve as a great place to gather, to mingle, and to do just about anything. The dark walls can also be a great way to get a comfortable, quiet space in with few neighbors.
I had the chance to tour our new home last week, and I have to admit that I’m quite impressed. I’ve always thought that the dark walls of a room were a bit of an eyesore, but after my first visit, I had to admit that they were a great way to create a more “cocooned” feel inside.
In general, the space in our new home has been designed to be cozy. The dark walls, dark ceilings, and dark flooring are all intended to create that cozy feeling. You can even make the walls darker if you want to, but it will only really work if the living room is a smaller space.
The challenge for designers and decorators is to create a room or space that is cozy, but also not dark. But since we’re in the home of a designer, we can only hope that they’ve done a good job. I personally like the idea of dark walls, but I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of dark ceilings.
For dark walls, try using dark flooring. My favorite place to place hardwood flooring is in the kitchen, where the hardwood creates a dark effect from the floor to the ceiling as well.
Dark ceilings are a must if you want a dark room. Even if you only have dark flooring in the room, the ceiling can still be dark without the walls.
The new Dark Walls Home is available on Steam. For your convenience, we’ve linked to the Steam version of the trailer.
As long as you have a dark ceiling, you will be able to create a dark room. In addition to the ceiling, you may need to use dark flooring to create a room that is both dark and has a dark ceiling. Dark walls are no longer a must, but they are still nice to have. Dark walls that are not completely black, but just a little darker than the rest of the room, will still be a nice touch.
For those of you who are looking to create a wall that is dark but not completely black, it may be helpful to use a piece of black tape with the adhesive side facing up. When the tape is pressed against the wall and the tape is pulled, the adhesive should stick to the wall. If not, try a second piece of tape with the adhesive side facing down. If the original tape doesn’t stick, try a third piece.
Of course, it’s not just walls that can be dark. Walls in general are pretty much black.
