I’ve had to stop creating my own photography because I’ve become so invested in the idea that it’s who I am that’s important. Photography creates a sort of reality to what I think and feel and that’s not at all what I wanted to create in my life. I want to be more present and aware. I want my life to be more interesting. I want to be more aware of the parts of myself that I’d never be able to see.
I get that, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing what you want when you want. The problem is that there are so few of us that it becomes difficult to create that sort of awareness when you don’t have those social skills. There are a lot of people who are on the internet who have nothing but a Facebook account. That’s a lot of “me” that they don’t have a clue about.
That’s a very good point and for those people who can’t figure out how to get on facebook or use it as a way to interact with their friends, I know how you feel. The point is, if you want to be a photojournalist, learn to see through other people’s eyes. The best way to develop that skill is to go to college and take an art class. Then you can create images that are unique and beautiful.
There is a lot of art on facebook, but the only people who can appreciate it are those who have nothing but a Facebook account. If it were that easy to go out and get decent pictures and not have to buy a camera, people wouldnt do it. I mean, you can buy a good camera for less than the price of a cup of coffee, but it isnt easy to get that good of an image, that people want to see.
It is very difficult to go out and get decent pictures that arent already taken with a camera. If you have a Facebook account, chances are you have been tagged in a picture somewhere, and you know it. So you go out and get a picture and put it on your Facebook wall. You know that you are the only one who is aware of what the picture is about.
Not a bad thing. I mean, when you are the only person in a room, you can see the world through the eyes of the person in that room. When you are the only person in the world, you can see everything through your eyes. There is a certain intimacy in those eyes that can only be experienced through the eyes of a trusted person.
