My newest photo series, logan grey photography, is a take on natural light, but it’s also an opportunity to explore new techniques that I’ve learned over the years.
I can’t think of a single time that natural light was a more important component of photography. It makes it easier to focus on a subject, it makes it a lot easier to take a photo of a subject that you want to be taken of in the first place (that is to say, photography is always about composition). And it makes it easier to take a photo of a subject that you are interested in taking time-lapse video of. It’s all good.
This is why I prefer dark room photography to the use of flash. Because it lets me control the exact moment of the light event in the room, not just the amount of light you can shoot. It’s really that simple.
And of course it is more important to be able to take a photo of a subject in the first place than it is to shoot a perfect photo. Its not about perfect photos, its about what you are interested in. Thats why I love dark room photography, its the perfect way to capture something that isnt quite right. Not perfect, just not what you want in the picture.
The light table has come a long way in the past few years with its light modifiers that allow you to adjust the amount of light that goes into the photo. Its also got an amazing auto-focus system that will allow you to get a super sharp picture even when the light is not perfect.
Another nice feature is that logan grey photography works well on both film and digital cameras. The only downside is that logan grey photography is not really a very good way to capture very dark objects in a photo. This is due to the fact that logan grey photography is all about light and shadows so it is very difficult to properly capture an object that is shadowed.
Logan grey photography is a great option if you like a high-level of quality that is not too far from reality. If you don’t do that, logan grey photography is a great alternative in many cases.
