Today, we are building a national urban security technology laboratory. The lab will serve as a hub of information, training, and innovation in urban security. Our mission is to support city governments and their citizens in their efforts to secure their cities and communities from terrorist threats. The lab is located in Arlington, VA and will focus primarily on urban security.
The lab is a collaboration between all of the federal agencies that work in urban security. We’ll be working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Transportation Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Secret Service. The lab will also work with the National Security Agency, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and other regional agencies that have a big impact on the problem of urban terrorism.
There is a special mention of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) in the article because they both work in the realm of urban security. As we’ve discussed previously, it’s important to know exactly whom we’re working with when we work on something of this level. When we say “work with” the terms “national security agency” and “geospatial agency” are a bit different.
NSA and NGA are government agencies tasked with protecting the nation’s physical assets from enemies and terrorists. They dont necessarily work on a nation-wide level like the CIA, but they are the ones who make sure the NSA and NGA are keeping the nation safe from the rest of the world.
