I’ve been doing photography for a while now and for the most part, it’s been kind of a hobby. However, this past summer, I decided to get serious about it.
Well, I started out with a tiny little iPhone camera (which I still use) and then I was hired by a company named “Camera & Glass” to do photography for their website. The first thing I did was take a few pictures of their products on my iphone and it was great. However, after about a week, they started asking me to take pictures for them for their website.
The reason is that their sites are actually quite simple and the products (and the photography of those products) can look pretty boring. It’s like taking a photo of a box of cereal. You can take a picture of a box of cereal by placing the box right up against the camera body and getting a good shot, but there’s nothing interesting about it.
I’m not saying this is a bad thing. You just have to pick which products are going to be the most interesting, and when you’re done, put the pictures online for people to see. The only problem is that my phone now has a camera function, so I can’t take pictures of my products. I think this is another reason why I’m not in love with Instagram.
I’m actually really excited to see what the new product photography will do for my business.
There are a lot of great products out there that we have not seen, and this is one of those times. It’s a real shame then when we’re not able to showcase new products in our videos.
