I had a great conversation with my friend and neighbor over Thanksgiving dinner last night. While we talked about the holiday, we talked about photography. I’ve had a blast shooting and photographing Thanksgiving meals over the past year and a half, and it’s now time to share my work with you.
We’ve all had a blast photographing Thanksgiving meals in our own homes. Every year on Thanksgiving, I like to sit down with my family and take some great photographs to share with you. One of the best ways to go about this is to photograph tables with food on them. This year, I decided to do that and take my friends and family portraits on Thanksgiving.
The idea of photographing Thanksgiving dinner tables with food on them seems fairly simple, but this year, it was much more complicated. I am not going to give you detailed instructions on how to do it, but I will give you some pointers as to what to do and what to look for. For starters, you have to find a place that is open for the day, and since I didnt bring my camera with me for Thanksgiving, I had to find another location.
I did make it, by the way. This is a big deal, so before you start the day with your food, take a quick inventory of what you have and what you might need to change. If you want to take your own pictures, take a look at our guide to the basics of taking pictures on Thanksgiving. Also, make sure that you have your cell phone with you, as you don’t want to miss a call from your mom.
The main thing that you need to take a look at are the things that you actually do with the pictures. You can only take so many pictures for your blog, and you will most likely only have two pictures of each Thanksgiving meal. This means that you will need to either take pictures of the table and the turkey, or, at minimum, the plates and napkins.
You can use the software that comes with your cell phone to take pictures. There are many free templates that most cell phones can be set up with. The only problem is that you need to be very close to the camera to get good pictures. The best bet is to bring a tripod, and then try to put the phone into a vertical position. If you try to hold it horizontally, you will have a hard time taking good pictures.
You can also take a picture of your food on the table. This works best if you’re eating with others (e.g., family and friends) so that the whole table can be in the frame. The key is to focus on the table and food and not yourself.
You can really improve your photos by taking the camera out of a tripod and placing it on a stable surface. That will ensure the focus is on the foods and not you.
The new blog post has a lot of food-related pictures, so if you’re looking to take a bunch of pictures of your table at the holiday table, you can check it out here.
Christmas is a time when we reflect on the past year. The holiday blog posts are like the annual diary posts of a family, and since everyone gets to see a few of them, you may want to set up a separate blog for them. Or you can just write a post every day for the year. It really depends on how many years you have in the family.
