RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Jade Jolie, Resurrection winner Saint, and more join The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula season 4 cast on Shudder. From Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Weeknd, all the artists who can’t wait to get on the road again. It’s kind of annoying, but it’s a necessary evil sometimes.
No because the people we cast are tough, they know what they signed up for and they want to be there. They’ve seen the show and we talk to them extensively about what they are going to have to do when they are cast. We’ve seen some viewers be outraged because someone had to get tattooed or something and it’s ridiculous – it’s like being outraged that someone who wants to be on Survivor gets sent to an island on the first episode. No, I think we put on such insane nights that you don’t really feel the impact at our parties – there is always something better to look at in our house than your phone.
We don’t want to “normalize” the gay community, or put it into a safe, acceptable package. That is partially why we as the Boulet Brothers do what we do and create the type of events that we create. We celebrate being queer, wild, free, in your face, and politically incorrect.
The Boulets are considered prolific nightclub producers with a career creating legendary nightlife events for over two decades. The Boulet Brothers are also widely celebrated as queer icons due to the inclusive nature of their creative mi amor meaning endeavors. The Boulet Brothers host a reality series to reveal the World’s next Dragula Supermonster. Each drag artist vies for the title and crown through a series of challenges to unveil their best drag, filth, horror and glamour.
The show has received international praise for its creativity, talent and diversity. The Boulet Brothers serve as the showrunners, executive producers and hosts of the show. Dragula is a drag competition show that lovingly centers on a scrappy, dedicated, queer community that rejects assimilation into cisheteronormative life.
The highlight of the event was the “Midnight Drag Pageant” which saw thirteen drag artists competing on stage in extreme challenges to win a $300 cash prize, a crown, and the title of Dragula. Due to the party’s success, the event expanded and began running monthly in San Francisco at the San Francisco Eagle. The party was also held in New York City for a special one night event as well as in Austin, Texas as part of the International Drag Festival.
In addition to Queen Kong, The Boulet Brothers tour with their event Dragula, which has run in Los Angeles, San Francisco and NYC, and features a midnight pageant showcasing the best looks of the crowd. Every Boulet Brothers event I’ve attended has included crowd involvement, which as an audience member makes you feel very much included – like you’re a participant rather than just a spectator. They challenge notions of masculinity and beauty, celebrate individuality and, well, filth. I got a chance to talk to The Boulet Brothers about some of their ideas about drag, how they got started in Los Angeles, and where they would like go next. ‘The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula’ season 4 will premiere on October 19, 2021, at 3 am ET on Shudder– AMC Networks’ premium streaming service dedicated to thriller, horror, and suspense.
