I was born into the world of wam photography. I’m also a photographer, but I prefer to use the word wam and the word wamster to describe myself. I don’t think of myself as a wamster, and I’m not sure my family even knows what a wamster is (not that they would’ve seen it if they did).
I grew up in a house with one camera, which was a very large Canon. This meant that I had to get quite good with it, and I had to learn to take long lenses. I also had to learn how to hold the camera, tilt it, and move the strap so that I could shoot as a whole image. I spent many many hours that summer doing this and learning all of this for my very first camera. It was pretty much my first “real” camera.
But as soon as I got the camera, I realized that I had a camera problem. There was no manual focus, no exposure, no manual aperture. I had to learn all of these things all on my own. Even trying to use a tripod is a challenge. I was able to learn and master all of these things, but it took years. I think I learned most of these things in five and a half hours in the morning.
The challenge of learning a camera is part of the thrill of discovery. The challenge of learning the camera as well, and how to use it, is part of the thrill. As a photographer, it’s an amazing thing to find yourself looking at photographs instead of just in them. Like most of the challenges that camera enthusiasts face, learning how to use the camera isn’t always easy.
The challenge of learning the camera is not the hard part, nor is it the end of the journey. It’s just the beginning, and a good part of the journey is learning to take photos and to use the camera in ways that will make you happy.
A good photographer will know this, and the camera may not be the answer to the challenge, but it sure is the challenge. If you really want to get better, the first step is just learning how to take photographs.
I learned photography the hard way, and I’ve had some very unhappy experiences with the camera. Not only have I been unable to make a decent camera with any of the few new digital cameras I’ve tried, but I’ve also had trouble shooting anything that wasn’t a landscape or portrait (I once made a photo of me eating cat poop, and I have no regrets about that).
I am also not a fan of the idea of photography being some sort of art. When people say, “You should be able to make a living taking pictures. You need to develop your skills,” I say “No, you need to stop making excuses for yourself and actually do it.” This is why you should always use a tripod and always use a flash.
I do think that photography has a role to play in art, but that its role is different from what some people want it to be. I also think that it is important to learn a little bit about photography and become familiar with the basics of what camera settings do and don’t work.
I think that photography can be a great way to make art, but I also think that it can be a great way to make money and to be a part of the world. I like to think of photography as being more like film making, but I can definitely see where you might feel differently.
