Yet, although he knows he’s guilty of the sin, he can nonetheless make different folks turn away from it. The Pardoner begins by addressing the corporate, explaining to them that, when he preaches in church buildings, his voice booms out impressively like a bell, and his theme is always that greed is the root of all evil.
The Pardoner enjoys the monetary rewards that preaching has introduced him.
